How Many Christmas Lights Do I Need?

So, how many Christmas lights do you really need?

As a starting point, we recommend using at least 100 lights for every 2ft of tree. If you prefer a brighter and fuller display, aim for approximately 100 lights per foot.

However, the perfect number also depends on the width of your tree, the type of lights you choose and how brightly you would like it to shine.

Does the width of the tree make a difference?

Yes. Two trees of the same height can require very different numbers of lights.

A full, traditional tree has longer branches and a greater surface area to cover. If you want the lights to travel towards the trunk as well as around the outer branches, you will need a longer set with more LEDs.

A slim Christmas tree has a smaller circumference and can usually be covered with fewer lights.

When choosing your lights, consider:
