Growing Better, Every Day
At Coletta & Tyson, sustainability isn’t a separate initiative, it’s part of how we grow plants, run our sites, and plan for the future. As both growers and retailers, we focus on doing things properly: investing long-term, improving continuously, and delivering better plants for our customers.
Better Plants, Grown Properly
We believe the way plants are grown matters.
Our plants are grown using 100% peat-free growing media, supporting a long-term shift away from peat in gardening. Many are also produced in coir-based growing systems, which help develop strong root structures and healthier plants.
The result is plants that establish better, last longer, and perform more reliably in your garden.
How We Grow
Behind the scenes, we’re constantly improving how plants are produced across our sites.
From crop planning to irrigation, everything is designed to reduce waste and improve quality. Across our 23,000m² garden centre and 13 growing sites, we focus on making better use of resources at every stage.
Smarter Energy Use
We’ve made significant long-term investments in renewable energy and low-carbon systems across our business.
This includes over 3MW of renewable heating capacity, alongside 700kw of solar generation and energy systems designed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
We’ve also carried out an independent energy assessment of our site to understand where improvements can be made — allowing us to reduce unnecessary consumption and manage energy more effectively over time.
Less Waste, Better Packaging
We are constantly working to reduce waste across our operations.
This includes moving away from polystyrene and introducing fully recyclable plant trays, resulting in over 50% reduction in packaging volume.
These changes make it easier for customers to recycle or reuse materials at home, while also reducing waste across the supply chain.
Using Water Responsibly
Water is a critical part of plant production, and we take care in how it’s used.
Across our sites, we capture and reuse rainwater through reservoirs and irrigation systems, helping reduce waste while maintaining high plant quality.
Part of the Local Community
As a family-run business, we’re proud to support our local area.
From jobs and training to working with local suppliers and community groups, we’re committed to making a positive impact beyond our plants.
We grow responsibly, invest for the future, and work to improve every year, because ultimately:
