August is usually one of the hottest months of the year - making watering essential. Try to use grey water wherever possible, especially as water butts may be running low. Enlist the help of friends & family to look after the garden if your away on holiday. Prune wisteria and summer loving shrubs e.g. lavender once they’ve finished flowering.

1. Prune wisteria
2. Don’t delay summer pruning fruits trained as restricted forms
3. Deadhead flowering plants regularly
4. Water! Preferably with grey recycled water or stored water
5. Collect seeds from garden plants
6. Harvest sweetcorn & veg as they become available
7. Continue cutting old fruit canes on raspberries
8. Lift and pot up rooted strawberry runners
9. Keep ponds & water features topped up
10. Feed the soil with green manures

Although summer isn't over yet, be prepared and look forward to the upcoming autumn months
